Anna Chocola, the fine art of retro style

Ho scoperto da poco questo sito tramite un'amica che ha vissuto a Londra per qualche anno, e me ne sono subito innamorata. Si tratta di un brand che si sta diffondendo sempre più in luoghi lontani tra loro come Reykjavik, Chicago, Parigi e Brighton , una piccola etichetta esclusiva che crea cappelli e borse, questa etichetta recita: "Anna Chocola".

Ma chi è questa Anna Chocola, che sta guadagnando crescente reputazione per lo stile, la qualità e  il disegno?

I recently discovered this site through a friend who lived in London for a few years, and I immediately fell in love. It is a brand that is growing in popularityIn places as far apart as Reykjavik, Chicago, Paris and Brighton, there are fashion-conscious women getting admiring glances and comments on their recently acquired hats and bags. And all those hats and bags have one thing in common… a small, exclusive label saying “Anna Chocola”.

But who is this Anna Chocola, who is gaining growing reputation for exclusive style, quality and fit in so many places?

Nata nel sud ovest della Francia, nel 1979, Anna è cresciuta nella fattoria di famiglia dal padre francese e madre inglese. Fin da piccola ha sempre avuto interesse per il disegno, la pittura e la progettazione, iniziando a fabbricare abiti dall'età di 13 anni.

Dopo aver preso una laurea in Inglese presso l'Università di Bordeaux, Anna inizia un corso di 5 anni e consegue il Diploma presso la Scuola di "Belle Arti" a Pau, poi ad Aix-en-Provence, e si specializza in arte, tessuti, scultura contemporanea e concettuale nel campo della moda.

Nel 2006, Anna si trasferisce in Inghilterra, stabilendosi a Brighton. Lavora presso un cappellaio per 3 anni come sua assistente, coltivando il suo amore per la moda e migliorando le sue abilità professionali.

Born in South West France in 1979, Anna was brought up on the family farm by her French father and English mother. From a small child she had always had an interest in drawing and painting and designing. She made her own clothes from the age of 13.

After taking a Degree in English at Bordeaux University, Anna moved on to begin a 5-year Diploma course at the School of “Beaux Arts “at Pau, then Aix-en-Provence, specialising in fine art, textiles, contemporary sculpture and conceptual work in fashion. 

In 2006, Anna moved to the UK, settling in Brighton. She started working for a Brighton based hatter over 3 years as her assistant, focussed her love of fashion and improved her skills in a very professional market.

Alcuni anni prima, Anna aveva trovato, nella casa colonica della bisnonna francese, una serie di cappelli e vestiti del 1920. Si trattava di cloches, turbanti e toques, e li aveva portati con se nel Regno Unito.

Some years before, Anna had been inspired by finding, in her French great grandmother’s farmhouse, a number of hats and clothes from the 1920s . These consisted of cloches, turbans and toques, and she brought these over to the UK with her.

Nel corso degli anni, Anna raccoglie materie prime in molti luoghi, tra cui gli Stati Uniti, in mercatini delle pulci in Francia e in negozi di merceria, anche a Madrid, e le sue borse divengono un successo immediato. Anna poi progetta e aggiunge altri stili al suo repertorio. L'interesse crescente la porta a studiare i cappelli che aveva trovato in casa della sua bisnonna. Comincia a ricrearli, usando i materiali esclusivi raccolti con amore in tutto il mondo. Anche in questo caso, il successo è immediato, e inizia il commercio, attraverso Internet, dedicato alle donne alla moda di tutto il mondo.

Sourcing materials from many places, including the USA, flea markets in France and even small haberdashery shops in Madrid, her bags were an immediate success. Then the fashion of fascinators came along and this led Anna to add them to her repertoire, designing them and making them in a number of styles. The interest this created led her to turn to the hats that she’d found in her great grandmother’s house. She began to re-create them, using her lovingly world-sourced exclusive materials. Again, interest was immediate, and she sold them, through the Internet to stylish women around the world.
